My Story:  My studio sits in the Foothills of Tucson, Arizona, where I find my inspiration every day.  I love the colors and the textures from nature that surround me and try to recreate the desert in my glass and jewelry.  I love gemstones and rocks of all colors and shapes.  I love creating lampworked glass in the flame.  And I like to use silver and gold to enhance my jewelry.  I call my work a harmony of glass and metal.

The Desert Bloom Collection:  I started making glass beads with a desert bloom back in 1997. It became my signature bead.  I feel that desert blooms are some of the most beautiful flowers in nature.  I once read ..... "On the third day of the creation of the world, God created plants.  After creating all the other plants, He created catuses and succulents and placed them in the far reaches of the Southwest deserts to protect them."

A lot of my jewelry is influenced by desert blooms.

Etching:  This series of the Desert Bloom Collection uses etched silver.  First I create an image - in this case a bloom - onto the silver with a resist, and then immerse the silver in a salt bath with electricity to etch the desgin into the silver.

Brooches:  At the same time I was designing this series, Madeline Albright died.  She loved to wear brooches and collected them.  So I decided to include a few brooches in her honor.

This brooch measures 1 5/8" by 1 5/8" in a soft square shape.  There is a frame of silver over the etched base.  And I have bonded 24 karat gold to the silver in a process called keumbo.  The gold emphasizes the etched blooms.  On top of the piece sits a lampworked glass bead which has been set like a precious half drilled pearl.

This is a one of a kind piece.
