My Story: My studio sits in the Foothills of Tucson, Arizona, where I find my inspiration every day. I love the colors and the textures from nature that surround me and try to recreate the desert in my glass and jewelry. I love gemstones and rocks of all colors and shapes. And for this colection I have chosen some very special pieces. I have a bad habit of buying beautiful stones and then hoarding them for that very special piece. Well, the day has arrived and I have created some pieces that allow these gemstones to shine.
The Stone: Labradorite is a Feldspar and it is favored because of its color play called labradorescence. It is usually a gray-green although I have seen it in an awesome purple. The labradorite in the earrings in these pieces are "sliced". They acually started life as a bead but I have set them in a prong setting which really shows off their beauty.
The Setting: Sterling silver is hand built by me wire by wire. Each piece is unique and crafted with attention to detail. As with all handmade items there will be variations.
This pair: These earrings are asymmetric. Asymmetry means that the earrings are not identical, but the elements achieve the perception of equillibrium. Asymmetry heightens the emotional impact and dramatic tension of the earrings.
The labradorite stones match in color and size but not in shape. They are both prong set One earring has one of my handmade glass beads that matches the labradorite in color and has a sparkle of its own. The earrings hang approximately 1 3/4 inch. They are about 3/4 inch wide.
