From late June through September, pods of the mesquite tree begin to ripen into a yellow-beige or purple color. That's the time to harvest them for eating right there or to dry and mill into flour.
My driveway is lined with pods. And I don't eat them.... instead they are inspiration for some earrings that are classic, chic, and make an artistic statement. Plus they are fun to wear every day.
This pair is a textured sterling silver circle that has a deep patina. The "pod" is sleeping beauty turquoise - an icon of the Sonoran desert.
The earring measures 1 inch in diameter and is hung on a Sterling silver french wire.
